About

Alyson_Kaneshiro (1).jpg

My name is Dr. Alyson Kaneshiro and I am founder of Learning Specialist LLC. I started my career as a special educator working in public schools and have since worked in independent schools, universities, and clinics in a number of roles including: educational evaluator, student services coordinator, adjunct professor, middle school learning specialist, associate director of learning services, educational therapist, action researcher, and SEED (Seeking Educational Equity and Diversity) facilitator.

I am honored to bring my knowledge and experience from 20 years of working in education to my private practice. Clients I work with range in age from middle schoolers to adult-aged professionals. My strengths-based and client centered coaching approach reflects my core values. I believe that by focusing on cultivating peoples strengths and supporting their whole selves (intellect, emotion, creativity) I help empower my clients to feel confident in their ability to learn and grow.

I also value advancing equity in education, and this means my actions utilize the power and privilege I have to advocate for others who do not have the same rights, access, and unearned privileges that I do. This is a lens that informs my ongoing action to disrupt systems of oppression and advocate for myself and others in my sphere of influence.

I am sincerely grateful for the people and places along my journey that have led me here. Please read on to find out more about my educational background and experiences that inform my practice. I look forward to meeting you soon!
